Department of Microbiology

Since established in 1966, Department of microbiological has been one of the core units of the Faculty of Biology. Our mission is to educate students breadth and depth of Microbiology through both lectures and laboratory experiments.
Our department has primary responsibility for teaching undergraduate students general courses include Microbiology, Applied microbiology, Molecular microbiology, Basic virology. We also provide numerous specialized and advanced courses for undergraduate and graduate majors, such as Microbial genetics, Microbiology and Environmental remediation, Vaccine biotechnology, Food microbiology, Microbial enzymes, Medical microbiology. In addition to classroom training, students pursue Microbiology major have opportunities to gain in-demand skills and hands-on experience by working in research under mentorship of one Department member.
Our research interests extend from discovering microbial diversity and genetic resource through microbial genetic engineering and exploitation of microorganism in food and fermentation industry, bioremediation, sustainable agriculture, and biofuel production. Research projects in Department of Microbiology are supported from various prominent sources, such as National Foundation for Science and Technology (NAFOSTED), Vietnam National University-Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi), Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT Vietnam), International Foundation for Science (IFS-Sweden).
Department of Microbiology encompass a strong group of faculty who are leading scientist in multiple areas of microbiology science.
