Main research directions

Research areas of interest

The Department currently focuses on two main research areas of interest in basic and applied researches.

Diversity and conservation of plants: Taxonomy and systematics of lower and higher plants, especially algae, mushroom and  medicinal plant species. Biodiversity of plant species in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Sustainable exploitation of plant resources. Establishment of database for taxonomy, diversity and conservation

Plant physiology and biotechnology: Research on plant species to acclimate or tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Micropropagation of ornamental plant species, medicinal plant species by tissue culture. Performing suspension or root hair culture for harvesting bioactive compounds. Selection of plant cell lines with elite characteristics or ability to resistance to pathogen. Pathogen in plants, especially in crop species. Establishment of transgenic plants with improved quality traits.
